Luminescence of CrO₄^3- and MnO₄^2- in various hosts

Abstract: We have doped the 3d¹ ions CrO^3-₄ and MnO^2-₄ into various host lattices. At 15 K broad-band emission in the NIR is observed from all the samples. Both the position and general appearance of the low-temperature luminescence vary considerably. The Cs₂SO₄: Mn⁶⁺ luminescence spectrum exhibits a particularly well-resolved fine structure which is analyzed quantitatively.
