Education

Born 1974.
Matura 1994.
Diploma in Chemistry at the University of Bern 1998, title of diploma thesis: "Optical spectroscopy of the systems BaLu2F8:Er3+ and BaLu2F8:Nd3+".
PhD in Chemistry at the University of Bern June 2002; title of thesis: "Optical Spectroscopy and Photon Upconversion in Transition Metal and Divalent Rare Earth Systems".

Research field

I am exploring upconversion materials. Upconversion luminescence is the emission of high frequency radiation from a system excited with radiation of a lower frequency. It is a common phenomenon among the lanthanides but it is rare in transition metal systems. Therefore the search for new d-metall upconversion materials and their spectroscopic characterization provides a challenging task for my PhD thesis.
